If Thou Must Love Me
I once attended a wedding. In the reception, the maid of honor read this for the newlyweds.
----
Sonnets from the Portuguese
Sonnet 14 - If thou must love me
a poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
----
If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only. Do not say
"I love her for her smile her look her way
Of speaking gently, for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of ease on such a day"
For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee, and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheek dry,
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou may'st love on, through love's eternity.

This is the way love should be. I don't know if you guys will find this stupid but when I really am in love with someone, I couldn't tell anyone why. My constant answer is just, "I don't know. I just know I do."

Aww I love this one. I really like this poem a lot and just like the other post said this is the way love should be. I have to say that love is awesome and sometimes you never know how or why you are in love. There are times when you do not even know what it feels like. Yeah I really like this and it is a great one to use and write for someone. This poem is really inspirational and awesome.
